Renormalization Group on Turbulence
نویسنده
چکیده
In 1986, Yakhot and Orszag developed a dynamic renormalization group method to solve the turbulence problem. In this paper, a particular random force is added to the Navier-Stokes Equation, and then following the standard renormalization group procedure, renormalization group equations and fixed points can be obtained. Together with some perturbation methods, many important turbulent constants can be calculated without any adjustable parameters: Kolmogorov constant Ck, Prandtl number Pt, von Karman constant κ, etc. These results are unprecedented and shocking, however, this work isn’t perfect, and many discussions are followed.

Renormalization Group (RG) in Turbulence: Historical and Comparative Perspective1
The terms renormalization and renormalization group are explained by reference to various physical systems. The extension of renormalization group to turbulence is then discussed; first as a comprehensive review and second concentrating on the technical details of a few selected approaches. We conclude with a discussion of the relevance and application of renormalization group to turbulence mod...
متن کاملCritical Phenomena: Landau Theory and the Renormalization Group Method
We first discuss a phenomenological mean-field theory of phase transitions due to Landau and introduce the ideas of universality and scaling near critical points. The breakdown of mean-field theory near a critical point leads us to introduce the renormalization group method, which has had a major impact on our understanding of phase transitions, quantum field theory, and turbulence. We introduc...
متن کاملApplication of Renormalization Group Method in Thermally Stratified Turbulent Flows
Renormalization group theory is applied to stratified turbulence. Various results due to nonlinearities, buoyancy and reference temperature gradient So are reported for cases where (Sol ts untform and sufficiently large. The main result is that the imposition of strong stratification leads to a new renormalization group fixed point and a (-3) law for the
متن کاملA Real-Space Discrete Inverse Renormalization Group Method.
A numerical version of a real-space of the Inverse Renormalization Group (IRG) proposed in [1] is developed. It has been tested to obtain the scaling behavior of the random-forced heat equation in the short scales limit. Prospectives are described, and the most important target for the procedure is fully developed turbulence.
